NOTE: Playing on Grass Pitches
Few here would have played on one before. The bowler may be the most affected. His follow through, after the delivery of the ball, must veer away from the pitch, either to the left or to the right. He must NOT follow through onto the centre of the pitch (the area in between the wickets, known as "the protected area"). This is to protect this part of the pitch where the ball is delivered. It is in fact against the RULES of cricket! It is also of NO benefit to the fielding side, as the umpire's view of the ball arriving at the batsman's end may well be obstruced, thereby making it impossible for him to call a possible LBW, stumping, whatever.
ALL players must jump over this area of the pitch as they cross it!
